Analog past
(2012)(7P)
Partially fixed test strips, used to assess the correct exposure of photographic paper, are usually thrown away. I decided to repurpose these “miniature photographs,” created during darkroom work, to form a collage. This mosaic, reminiscent of pixels, creates a multidimensional image that refers to digital reality.
Through the action of light on photographic paper that has not undergone the full process of fixing and washing, the work continuously changes its tone and color, and is exposed to the possibility of complete disappearance in the future. This phenomenon relates directly to the chemical process of image formation.
The piece highlights the paradox of light’s role in photography — its power to create, and at the same time, to destroy or “erase” the image.
